Four of Wands, Eight of Pentacles, Five of Pentacles
What does it mean to be free? It can be an exciting prospect, breaking free from circumstances that made you feel unhappy. It can also be terrifying, forging ahead into unfamiliar territory, noticing everything that you’re leaving behind. Even the most unpleasant thoughts can act like a security blanket, giving us a false sense of comfort. The Four of Wands gives us some hope this March, though. There’s hope that things will be brighter and better. A new direction may emerge, or at least the promise of one sits on the horizon. Trust that whatever work you’ve been doing for yourself is paying off. Just the commitment of focusing energy into your own well-being is a tremendous step towards taking control of your own story and future. Don’t let slip ups make you think you can’t make it, or the opinions of others hold you back. Progress looks different for everyone, and there’s reassurance here that your journey is valid. There’s a sense of quiet and gentle resilience to this card. You can do the hard work and be gentle with yourself too. Remember that.
Because what happens when we’re not gentle? We run the risk over over-working ourselves. Immediate results are enticing, but not always realistic. And perfection is a trap that leaves us always falling behind. It’s okay to want to do better, be better, and make goals. But the pace here is frenetic. The Eight of Pentacles appears in the waxing position for April, and there’s caution against over-doing it implied in that positioning. Find a steady pace and have realistic expectations. Sometimes that work or school project doesn’t need to be done perfectly, it just needs to get done. Sometimes it’s okay to let things fall aside. And some days, you just need to step back and examine the big picture and take in the entire journey. When you find yourself along that journey, you’ll understand just how far you’ve come, and that there’s plenty of time to enjoy the path towards wherever your destination lies. Don’t fall into the trap of thinking that you can or should get it all done now. You’ll get there when you get there.
The overarching theme here is to find a way to change your mindset. If you’re jumping to conclusions or trying to force your will over a situation, take a step back. The Five of Pentacles is a card related to loss and sadness. But sometimes that despair we feel is of our own making. I’m not one for positivity for positivity’s sake, but there’s something to be said for not focusing solely on the negatives. The human brain can make meaning out of anything, piecing together remnants that don’t always belong together. In this way, we run the risk of reinforcing our negative perceptions instead of breaking free from them. By the same token, forcing a situation to take shape is at times the surest way to ensure that it falls apart. Over-planning doesn’t allow for new variables to take shape. You can’t force growth. What you can do is guide it, lovingly
nurture it, and make it a priority.
